Social Services in Schools

Service vision, core values, and guiding principles

Vision

The vision of the Social Services in Schools is to “enhance life outcomes for children whose social and family circumstances place at risk their chances of achieving good education, social and health outcomes.”

Stand Tū Māia provides the service in Christchurch, Gisborne and Northland. Social Services in Schools are assigned to clusters of schools in each area and work closely with the schools and other agencies. The service is available to primary, intermediate and secondary schools.

The core values and guiding principles provide a philosophical framework for the service.

Core values

The existing strengths within families/whanau are acknowledged and enhanced though the application of a strengths-based practice social work philosophy. Children have a right to have their well-being and safety protected and promoted to achieve their full potential.

The service will:

  • Function using the partnering principles and framework between schools and service providers.
